Reception

Welcome to Lent term 1.

We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas break with your families and you are ready for lots more fun and learning!

This half term we will be focussing on Traditional Tales!

In English, we are reading The Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Little Red Riding Hood. We are discovering new vocabulary, discussing events in the story and making predictions about what might happen next! We will try new things in our learning this term and try hot seating the characters and discussing how they might be feeling. We will carry out lots of exciting writing tasks linked to these books. We will focus on writing using finger spaces and begin to look at capital letters and full stops during shared writing.

In Topic we are looking at On the Farm, we will look at all the animals that live on the farm, what their names are and what their babies are called. We will look at what kind of habitats they live in and how we can take care of animals in our environment.

In RE we are learning about ‘Celebrations'. The children will learn about what and why do people celebrate. We will discuss what it is like to be a part of the Church community and to be a part of God's family who can celebrate together.

In Maths we are looking in depth at numbers 1-10. We are learning everything we need to know about each number, what it represents and how it is written. We are practising counting confidently to 10 and beyond and also learning how to write our numbers correctly. We are looking at subitising numbers, looking at a group of objects/dots and knowing how many there are without counting.

In Phonics we are continuing with Read Write Inc. We are learning the initial sounds and will start to recognise sounds in simple words. We are beginning to make simple CVC words during word time and are now able to read CVC words too.

We look forward to another fun half term in Reception!
