WORLD BOOK DAY

World Book Day was so much fun!

We started off by talking all about our favourite books, authors and sharing what we dressed up as. We took part in the Virtual Assembly where we worked hard on the quiz, lots of us got 10/10 correct every time.

The parade was super exciting and we enjoyed getting to see everyone’s costumes and characters.

To finish off our day, we were lucky enough to watch the production of the Jungle Book with everyone else from school. It was such a treat and we loved the musical choices!

SCIENCE WEEK

During Science Week, we started off creating a Wonder Wall. Some things we wonder are…

-If animals can hear and understand us?

-Why we exist?

We split up into groups, created Investigation Questions and predicted what our outcomes would be. We then did our experiments about Rocket Mice, using milk cartons and our designed paper mice. The Rocket Mice were super speedy and travelled really high/far. We had lots of fun!

SPORTS AFTERNOON

We were excited to have a Year 5 Sports Afternoon this term!

We learnt how to play and discussed the rules. We split up into classes and played a game called Rounders. In Rounders you want to hit the ball really far and run around the bases before the fielders get the ball and try to get you out.

We had a tie during both of the games and had an extra batting turn at the end of the day to test our skills!

VIKING DAY

Last term, we were lucky enough to have a Viking themed day to follow on from our History learning where we focused on Viking warriors, their invasions, how they lived and their resources.

We all came dressed up as different Vikings and designed our own realistic names and helmets that were apart of our very own tribes! We used a loom, built Viking Long Boats and sundials to tell the time.

It was great to share our learning with other students and wear our amazing outfits!

Space Assembly

Year 5 had our Year Group Assembly which was all about Space! We enjoyed sharing our learning and our Wider Curriculum homework of making a project to help us learn about Space.

We learnt about the 8 planets and how Pluto is not classified as a planet anymore, as he was downgraded to a Dwarf Planet in 2006. Our Scientist in the Spotlight was Ptolemy. He lived over 1,800 years ago and believed the Earth was at the centre of the universe.

vr day

We had a VR Session where we got to explore all around Space!

We focused on the Earth and because of the amazing effects, it felt like we were falling off! We learnt about the 8 planets and the order they are in.
It is: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. We got to see them in our headsets which was really fun and creative, looking and describing the shapes and colours.

It was so much fun and our instructor had lots of fun facts!
