Clubs & Enrichment Activities

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School believes strongly that learning extends well beyond the classroom and that an outstanding education should offer all students a range of enrichment activities which will support them to be successful in life.  Alongside a bespoke, challenging and thought provoking curriculum, extra-curricular activities, taking place during lunchtime and after school, are on offer.  These activities provide opportunities for students to learn new skills, make new friendships and develop their confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

In addition to a selection of clubs on offer, St Joseph's strongly encourages an enrichment activity which is accessible to all pupils, reading. Curriculum time is devoted to develop reading skills, with pupils choosing class readers and access to the Accelerated Reading Programme from Y2 to Y6, which guides pupils in the choice of books available for them. All pupils are expected to read daily and our well resourced library is open to differing year groups each morning.

Our Year 5 and 6 pupils have weekly drumming sessions to enrich their musical experience at St Joseph's.  Our musical coach, Justine, also takes smaller groups for shorter sessions. We are fully aware of the benefits for our pupils, some of which are listed below:

  • Heightened feelings of well-being
  • Physical strength gained by aerobic exercise
  • Unity with fellow group members all playing together
  • Higher self-esteem
  • Ensemble skills
  • Rhythmic accuracy go hand in hand
  • Active listening
  • Appreciation of musical skill and creativity

We hope you will encourage your child/children to join a club and learn something new.

If you would like any more information on any of the clubs available, please contact the school office.
