Termly live performances enables pupils to share their talent and passion. The leaflet at the bottom of the page explains more about Rocksteady.

Music at St Joseph's
At St Joseph's we are passionate about music and we aim for students to be happy, enthusiastic and eager learners. We believe that our students should be inspired by music and have opportunities to participate in a variety of musical experiences.
Our music curriculum is designed to develop a love of music, musical knowledge and skills. Through the Charanga programme, the students have an understanding of what music is through listening and responding activities, singing, playing interactive games based on musical elements and evaluating music styles.
In Key Stage 2, students are given opportunities to participate in a variety of musical experiences, as well as participating in weekly instrumental lessons. From whole class recorder and glockenspiel lessons in Lower key Stage 2 to African drumming in Upper Key Stage, our pupils develop a knowledge of the impact music has had on culture and tradition. Performance plays a vital part of developing confidence and pupils are keen to share their talents at concerts and community events, such as the Parish Day.
The school choir provides opportunities for pupils to learn a repertoire of songs and rehearse as a group to refine their choral skills. Pupils who join choir attend events to share their passions, singing at the Young Voices Concert and community events. The choir will now also be leading the singing at all school masses throughout the year.
Learning an Instrument at St Josephs
At St Josephs, we currently offer piano, violin and Rock Steady lessons. We are hoping to increase the range of musical instruments available to learn privately at school. We ask that parents either email the school office to request this, or directly email Bucks Music Trust requesting lessons be started at St Josephs.

Music of the Month
Every Month at School we learn about a new genre of music!
This month we are learning about:
the history of christmas carols

A Christmas carol is a song that focuses on the religious aspect of Christmas. So it could tell the story of the birth of Jesus, mention God or be about how Christians celebrate Christmas.
You will have heard people talking about Christmas carols and Christmas songs and may think that they are the same thing. However, not all Christmas songs are carols.
In the past, when only wealthy people received an education, many people couldn’t read. Christmas carols were an important way of helping people learn the Christmas story.
The lyrics (words) and music of Christmas carols were sometimes written by different people. The lyrics might have started off as a poem rather than a song. Because lots of carols were written a long time ago, some of the words are old fashioned.
Christmas carols were usually written to be played on a church organ and sung by a choir as well as a church congregation. Some carols have a descant. This is a different, higher tune that complements the main melody. It is usually sung during the last verse.
Information regarding Rock Steady
If you child would like to learn an instrument that isnt already being taught at our school, please email Buck Music Trust requesting it be taught at our school. This is the only way we can have a new Music Teacher come into school to teach new instruments.
